The music of Colin Stetson defies categorization. I submit a humble attempt at capturing a fraction of the raw emotion present in his work. My main reference for this recording is Stetson’s live performance of this piece on La Blogotheque. Stetson’s microphone setup is extensive and meticulously honed over decades of performing in this style. My aim here is to approximate his results with a single pickup microphone. Recorded live in one take with no effects or overdubs, only basic amplification and the natural reverb of my stairwell.
