🕊️ Décès d’un jeune sapeur-pompier volontaire savoyard engagé sur le feu au Planay

The death of a volunteer firefighter from the Savoie Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 73), who was fighting a vegetation fire in Le Planay, was announced Wednesday morning. Corporal Baptiste Gerfaud-Valentin, 22, based at the Albertville fire station, was working to contain the blaze. During the night of July 7-8, 2026, he was struck by a falling rock and seriously injured. According to reports, he was hit by a boulder in the early morning and was pronounced dead at the scene. Vanina Nicoli, Prefect of Savoie, visited the firefighters' command post in the hamlet of Le Villard on Wednesday morning, accompanied by Colonel Fabrice Terrien. The fire, which is burning in the commune of Le Planay, has led to the closure of the departmental road between Bozel and Pralognan-la-Vanoise.
