🔥 Fontainebleau : 2000 hectares brûlés dans le plus grand feu de forêt en Île de France - Incendie
By midday on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, fires ravaging the Fontainebleau forest in Seine-et-Marne had already burned through more than 2,000 hectares; two active fronts remained uncontained, while two individuals were detained as part of an investigation into a possible deliberate origin. The first fire broke out on Sunday, July 12, around 4:40 p.m. alongside the A6 motorway near Noisy-sur-École—on the edge of the Trois Pignons massif—before spreading to the municipalities of Achères-la-Forêt and Le Vaudoué. A second fire started on Monday, July 13, around 3:00 p.m. in the Faisanderie area, a few kilometers from the town of Fontainebleau. The disaster is unfolding amidst an exceptional heatwave; Seine-et-Marne is one of 26 departments placed under a "red alert" by Météo-France this Tuesday, with another 58 under "orange alert." The main fire had consumed 300 hectares by Sunday evening, 800 hectares shortly after midnight, and 1,200 hectares by Monday evening, before reaching approximately 1,600 hectares on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the Faisanderie fire has spread across 450 hectares following a night of rapid expansion, according to Seine-et-Marne Prefect Pierre Ory. Conditions remain unfavorable, with high temperatures and dry air, despite winds being lighter than on Monday. The peaty nature of the soil raises concerns that it could take several weeks to fully extinguish the fires. Some 850 firefighters have been deployed, supported by four Canadair planes, three water-bombing helicopters, and two Dash aircraft, as well as military resources brought in to reinforce the local fire service (SDIS 77). The water-bombing aircraft—deployed in the Île-de-France region for the first time—halted their sorties overnight and resumed operations at daybreak. Emergency services hope to contain the fire on Tuesday, July 14, while anticipating an operation that could last one to two weeks. At least 900 residents have been evacuated—mainly from Le Vaudoué and areas bordering the forest—and cannot return home until the fire is contained; community halls and gymnasiums have been opened to shelter them. There have been no casualties, and property damage remains limited. A departmental operational center has been activated at the prefecture, and an order banning access to part of the forest area has been issued. The gardens of the Château de Fontainebleau have been closed. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who visited the site on Monday morning, noted about ten separate points of origin for the fire within a 1,000-meter radius, suggesting it was deliberately set. On Monday evening, he announced the detention of two suspects in the vicinity, including an 18-year-old man previously unknown to the police. Investigations are being conducted under the authority of the Fontainebleau Public Prosecutor, with the Paris Gendarmerie's research section handling the case. Nationally, 59 arrests have been made in connection with the starting of fires, and seven people are in pre-trial detention; meanwhile, 32,000 hectares have already burned in France since the beginning of 2026—more than the total area burned during the entire 2025 season. The A6 motorway remains closed in Seine-et-Marne, while fires running alongside the Southeast high-speed rail line have been extinguished and rail traffic between Paris and Lyon has returned to normal. The prefect and the director of fire and rescue services were expected at the Noisy-sur-École command post at noon for a further situation update. The fire in the Fontainebleau Forest (Seine-et-Marne) is the largest forest fire ever tackled in the Île-de-France region, with over 2,000 hectares burned, 850 firefighters deployed, four Canadair aircraft in action, and the A6 motorway closed. The situation remains fluid amidst a heatwave, a red alert, and an arson investigation. #Fontainebleau #Fire #ForestFire #Heatwave #Summer #Summer2026 #Heatwave2026 #FontainebleauForest #Firefighters #News #CLPRESS #Live #Livestream Subscribe to follow all on-the-ground news footage without commentary: https://youtube.com/clpress?sub_confi... 📲 More on-the-ground news footage: ▶️ Twitter:   / clpressfr  ▶️ Facebook:   / clementlanot  ▶️ YouTube:    / clpress  ▶️ TikTok:   / clpress  ▶️ Instagram:   / clpress  ▶️ Website: https://clpress.fr/ ▶️ Email: [email protected] ANY COMMERCIAL OR NON-COMMERCIAL USE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED WITHOUT PERMISSION.
