Today we walk through Jerusalem, following the ancient Old City walls from New Gate to Damascus Gate. The Old City of Jerusalem is one of the most historically significant places in the world, sacred to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Its current walls were constructed in the 16th century under the Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Magnificent, built upon layers of earlier ancient fortifications. The New Gate connects the modern parts of Jerusalem with the Christian Quarter, while Damascus Gate is one of the most important and historic entrances to the Old City, traditionally leading toward the ancient road to Damascus. In this walk, we follow the outer line of the Old City walls, experiencing the contrast between modern urban life and centuries-old stone architecture that has witnessed countless historical events.
