Skinks are lizards belonging to the family Scincidae, a family in the infraorder Scincomorpha Scincidae എന്ന ഉരഗ കുടുംബത്തിലാണ് അരണകൾ ഉൾപെടുക. ലോകത്തെങ്ങുമായി 1612 ഇനം അരണകളെ ഇതുവരെയായി കണ്ടെത്തീട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ 72 സ്പീഷിസ് അരണകളുണ്ട് 4 cm മാത്രം നീളമുള്ള കുഞ്ഞൻ അരണയായ ട്രാവങ്കൂർ പൂച്ചരണ (Ristella travancorica) തൊട്ട് 45 cm നീളമുള്ള Mabuya tytleri വരെ വിവിധ നീളക്കാർ. മരുഭൂമിയിലെ മണലിലൂടെ നീന്തി മറയുന്നതിനാൽ ‘മണൽമീൻ’ എന്നും പേരുള്ള Ophiomorus tridactylus രസികന്മാരാണ്. മണ്ണിലിറങ്ങാതെ ജീവിതകാലം മുഴുവനും മരത്തിൽ തന്നെ ജീവിച്ചു തീർക്കുന്ന മര അരണകളുണ്ട്. ഒക്കെകൂടി വൈവിദ്ധ്യമാർന്നതാണ് അരണലോകം. വെറും - ‘അരണ’ തൊട്ട് ‘മര അരണ’, ‘പാമ്പരണ’, ‘പൂച്ച അരണ’, ‘മണ്ണരണ’, ‘കാട്ടരണ’ എന്നീ ഇനങ്ങളിൽ 19 സ്പീഷിസ് അരണകളാണ് കേരളത്തിലുള്ളത്. വളരെ സാധാരണയായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന അരണയാണ് ‘സുവർണ അരണ’ (golden skink) എന്നും Keeled Indian Mabuya , Many-keeled Grass Skink എന്നും ഒക്കെ പേരുള്ള Eutropis carinata . ഇതുകൂടാതെ ചെമ്പനരണയും ( Eutropis macularis) , പാമ്പരണയും ( Lygosoma punctata) നാട്ടിൽ ചുറ്റും കാണാൻ കിട്ടും. പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിലും ശ്രീലങ്കയിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരിനം അരണയാണ് Sphenomorphus dussumieri. പത്തൊൻപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ ഇവിടം സന്ദർശിച്ച ഫ്രഞ്ച് സഞ്ചാരിയും ജീവികളുടെ സ്പെസിമനുകൾ ശേഖരിക്കുന്ന ആളും ആയ Jean-Jacques Dussumier ന്റെ ഓർമ്മയ്ക്കായാണ് ഈ പേര് നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. കടലുണ്ടി കടപ്പുറത്ത് നിന്ന് 1870 ൽ ബെഡോമി കണ്ടെത്തിയതായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തീട്ടുള്ള ‘ അഞ്ചുവിരലൻ അരണ’യെ ( Five- fingered skink – Chalcides pentadactylus ) പിന്നീടാരും റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല. ചിലപ്പോൾ അവയുടെ വംശം കുറ്റിയറ്റുപോയതായിരിക്കാം, എങ്കിലും ഗവേഷകർ അതിനെ കണ്ടെത്താനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങൾ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. പൊന്മുടി മലനിരകളിൽ നിന്നും 1984 ൽ കണ്ടെത്തിയ പൊന്മുടി അരണ ( Mountain skink – Eutropis clivicola) ആണ് നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലെ പുതുമുഖം. ഇവർ പൊന്മുടിയിൽ മാത്രം വസിക്കുന്നവരാണ്. #അരണ #malayalam #മലയാളം #വിജയകുമാര്ബ്ലാത്തൂര് #animalfactsvideos #educational image atribution: David raju Sunny Joseph Copyright Disclaimer: - Under section 107 of the copyright Act 1976, allowance is mad for FAIR USE for purpose such a as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship and research.
