Non-profit organizations that provide free housing solutions to vulnerable families will now be able to save on VAT for purchases made for their social work. This was a long-standing aspiration that these organizations had been persistently advocating for. For example, in July of last year, in an interview here on En Perspectiva about the work of the Cyreneans and their “Rancho Cero” program, Father Juan Andrés “Gordo” Verde argued very eloquently… “Each modular home, installed, transported, and connected, costs us almost $15,000 today. We pay VAT; it has to be paid, and we have no way to deduct it, no way to get out of it. And that’s a fight we’re going to wage to the end simply because we’re paying to help. I believe that the State, at some point—or I hope, or wish—that just as international artists like Lali Espósito and others come here and, because it’s culture, which I think is fantastic, are exempt from VAT, I would like them to look at those of us working here for the less privileged and say, ‘Hey, I can’t charge these people for providing solutions for them.’” "In the 100 container homes I set up, we could have helped 20 more families."
