The Held farm in Rüegsau, Switzerland, manages 36 hectares and specializes in dairy farming. Until 2021, the cows were kept in a tie-stall barn. However, this was no longer up to modern standards. The new solution: a new building for 70 cows with a Feedstar conveyor belt including a variable winch. This technology ensures even unloading of the feed. Feeding primarily involves feed from the bunker silo, which is collected by a mixer wagon and distributed on the conveyor belt. First, the belt is retracted to collect the remaining feed at the end before it is disposed of. The conveyor belt is 0.9 meters wide and 45 meters long and is filled with a total mixed ration (TMR) as well as alfalfa, corn, grass silage, and occasionally some beet pulp in winter. Typically, about 2.7 tons of feed are fed in the morning and the remaining feed in the evening; if necessary, this can be done three times a day. Since the conveyor belt was installed 2.5 years ago, the farm has noticed many advantages: no more pushing feed, even feed distribution, low maintenance requirements, and much more.
