On August 17, 2017, she was brutally murdered: Jutta Knust – a name that will likely not be forgotten anytime soon in Ruppin, Brandenburg. It belonged to a woman who was very popular with everyone. The 61-year-old believed in the goodness of people – a belief that ultimately led to her demise. Through her younger son, Philipp, who has a disability, she also knew what it was like for people who have a difficult life. He cannot care for himself, but: "There are times when he's completely normal, just like everyone else, helpful, kind, polite, and then there are other times when he's totally confused and doesn't know what day it is or what he's supposed to do," explains Jutta's former tenant, André Redlin. He, "Knochi," and Karl, too, had fallen somewhat out of favor with society for different reasons, but Jutta took them in and they lived on her property by Lake Ruppin, just as Jutta herself did with Philipp. They lived together like a small family, meeting in the evenings for barbecues or a beer. Jutta ran a boat rental business at the time and was supported in her work by both André and Knochi. Karl was once part of the team, but eventually, he and Jutta clashed repeatedly and were rarely seen around. He owed her rent, quit his job at the boat rental company, and joined a competitor. "She didn't like that at all. Yes, and she was simply furious with him," explains Jutta's best friend, Frank Kuchenbecker. Did the argument escalate, and did Karl kill the 61-year-old?
