Thank you! 🙏 Here, I travel to the historical town of Taiping in Perak State after coming down from Penang Island. It’s the second largest town in Perak after the states capital, Ipoh, and it’s said to be the wettest town in peninsula Malaysia as it receives between 3,000 to 4,000mm of rain a year! Taiping was one of the first towns in Malaya to be developed by the British and this is reflected in the grandeur of some of its architecture thanks to the discovery of tin in the area. It quickly became the tin capital of Perak state until it was surpassed by Ipoh. The mines attracted large numbers of settlers, particularly Chinese. Feuds began between the different groups and things became so bitter that in the early 1870s, the British intervened and assumed control of the town.
