Thank you! 🙏 Welcome to the royal town of Kuala Kangsar in Perak State. It lies about 30km SE of the historic town of Taiping and about 25km NW of the state capital, Ipoh. Kuala Kangsar is home to the Sultan of Perak and is a beautiful town to explore (I’ve been here before back in 2009) with many palaces and one of the most beautiful mosques in the country. In fact, the town is packed with pretty sites that are rather spread out so you might consider getting taxis or buses between them instead of walking everywhere. The town is also the site of the first rubber tree planted in Malaysia by the English botanist Henry Nicholas Ridley. He was the one who helped Malaya become the largest rubber producer in the world and his tree still stands today. As well as visiting the town, I also head 10km north to a small town called Karai (also known as Enggor) in order to visit an important railway bridge called Victoria Bridge. It’s the oldest railway bridge in Malaysia having been built between December 1897 and March 1900 by the Perak Government Railway as a crossing over the Perak River to serve the local tin mining industry. It cost $300,000 and was considered the largest railway project carried out in Malaya at the time. It’s 353m long and the British Resident General at the time, Sir Frank Swettenham, in his speech, said that this was the largest bridge in Asia, outside of India. During the Japanese occupation of Malaya in 1941, the British army attempted to impede the Japanese invasion southward by partially destroying the bridge. It was repaired after the end of the war with barracks and additional security features being added during the period of the Malayan Emergency. It remained in use until 2002, when a new concrete bridge wide enough to handle double tracking was opened beside the old bridge. 0:00 - Intro 2:05 - Pavilion Tower 2:36 - MCKK The Big School 3:17 - Masjid Ridzwaniah 4:30 - Hospital Pertama 4:53 - Clifford School 5:18 - Church of the Resurrection 6:03 - Malay's First Rubber Tree 7:15 - Idris Club 7:38 - Town Centre 10:43 - Perak River 11:40 - Armoured Scout Cars 13:14 - Ubudiah Royal Mosque 15:48 - Royal Mausoleum 16:35 - Istana Iskandariah 17:00 - Istana Kenangan 18:19 - Victoria Bridge Locations of the places visited in this video are as follows: 📍 Pavilion Tower: https://maps.app.goo.gl/fXBXBeyauS2UZ... 📍 MCKK The Big School: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kFNXvy2Stjmxv... 📍 Masjid Ridzwaniah: https://maps.app.goo.gl/yxXcBR3unzBFd... 📍 Hospital Pertama: https://maps.app.goo.gl/wh8vLwRhaayeZ... 📍 Clifford School: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kpfZmJkDqtzED... 📍 Church of the Resurrection: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MGuWfxktVvgu1... 📍 Malay's First Rubber Tree: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LZY5GUD2uiuD2... 📍 Idris Club: https://maps.app.goo.gl/prQiQBDdLkvLQ... 📍 Town Centre: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FWujMVksjzeZ4... 📍 Armoured Scout Cars: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AoxcjG6teVYRZ... 📍 Ubudiah Royal Mosque: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pAZ5YcvyE3JgY... 📍 Istana Iskandariah: https://maps.app.goo.gl/VoN2fgKos1CEz... 📍 Istana Kenangan: https://maps.app.goo.gl/A133G475rVa8V... 📍 Victoria Bridge: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UmkvkMgedQrp9...
