[Damgu Cafe Camp - 05/26] Off-Grid Camping: Using My E-Scooter for Power & Dealing with Intense Rain

From losing my keys to battling zero-visibility fog and intense rain, here is my 3-day experience camping at Damgu Cafe. After leaving Casa de Montero, I headed to Damgu Cafe to set up camp. It was a trip filled with unexpected challenges, but it gave me a real look at what it takes to live and work off-grid in the mountains. In this video: The Struggle: The reality of riding a motorcycle with sidebags through narrow, pedestrian-only walkways and tight right-angle corners. My scooter tipped over in one of the tight turns! A huge thanks to the caretaker for helping me get it back upright because the weight of the camping gear is no joke. The Key Scare: A moment of panic while trying to help out the Pine Farm caretaker, but thankfully, things worked out. Work-From-Home Off-Grid: Since there is no electricity at Damgu yet, I used my electric scooter as my main power source for the entire stay. The Reality of Water: Sharing the current water situation at the campsite, including the search for drinking water and the reliance on rainwater for bathing. They are working hard to tap into the barrio’s water source, which will be a huge improvement for the site once completed. Surviving the Storms: Waking up to intense rain and scrambling to save my Starlink and extension cords from the splash. The Decision: Since it is already Habagat season, the rain comes and goes constantly. I also had to plan my route home carefully, deciding to take the long way back instead of the shortcut from Antique to Tubungan, which is still incomplete, muddy, and prone to landslides and slippery, steep sections. Camping Notes: Food Security: Just like at the other sites, keep your food securely stored. There are plenty of dogs, cats, and chickens roaming around looking for an easy meal! Power & Water: There is no electricity or drinking water on-site yet, so come prepared with your own power source or enough water containers. Anteco has surveyed the area for future electricity, and the team is working on connecting to the barrio's water line. Weather: The mountains here get very foggy with low visibility. If you’re planning to travel, always give yourself extra time if the weather looks unpredictable. Damgu Cafe is a beautiful spot, and it’s exciting to see how they are working to improve their water and electricity access for future campers.
