盆栽を守る夏の水管理 ～朝夕の水やりと葉水の基本～

In this episode of WABI CHANNEL, we introduce the essential watering techniques and summer care needed to help bonsai through extreme heat. Even when the surface of the soil appears wet, water may not have penetrated the soil deep inside the pot. During summer, it is especially important to observe how quickly the soil dries and how well the water penetrates. When necessary, wait a short while and make a second or third watering pass so that moisture reaches the entire root area. Through practical demonstrations, we explain how watering differs between coniferous and deciduous bonsai, how to water in the morning and evening, and how an evening spray over the foliage can help cool the tree. We also introduce useful techniques for Shohin bonsai, including immersing the pot in a bucket of water and using a wet towel to help prevent rapid drying at home. By carefully observing each tree and adapting your watering to its condition, you can help protect your bonsai from the intense heat of summer.
