★ 4K 🇨🇭 Spiez - Interlaken Ost cab ride [06.2023] Switzerland Führerstandsmitfahrt Thunersee

Happy Swiss national day! Today we're on a picturesque line along the lake of Thun, between Spiez and Interlaken. Interlaken is a popular tourist destination in Switzerland. The name literally means "between the lakes" as it is situated between the lake of Thun and the Brienz lake. The normal gauge network ends there and narrow gauge railways continue on to various locations in the alps. We've been on this line before, on a longer journey from Vallorbe to Interlaken:    • ★ 4K 🇨🇭Cab ride Vallorbe - Payerne - Lyss ...   Since then, the 3 stations between Interlaken and Spiez have unfortunately been closed to passenger traffic and are served by buses instead. Here is a video showing the old BLS rolling stock stopping along the line: (   • ► Abschied von den BLS EW I Wagen  ) and also the regional freight train (which no longer serves Interlaken):    • ► A day with the SBB Ae 6/6 "11426 Stadt Z...   On a side note, there used to be a narrow gauge line on the other side of the lake, providing a link to the Beatenberg funicular. It resembled a tramway and also connected Thun to Interlaken, with a further line in Thun to Steffisburg. The line was different to this one in that it had to gain 60 metres in elevation due to the terrain along the lake. As cars gained popularity, the railway lost passengers and slowed traffic due to the fact that it often shared the road with them. By 1952, the trains were replaced by trolleybuses, after just 38 years of operation. The line between Interlaken and Beatenbucht was already closed in 1939. I hope you enjoyed the video.
