Not a trail runner. No training. No knowledge of the terrain. And yet, in a few months, I'll be lining up at the start of the Templiers Endurance Trail: 100 km, 5,000 m of elevation gain, between 12 and 15 hours of running in the great outdoors. This episode launches a brand-new documentary series: we're filming everything. The training sessions, the physiological tests, the encounters with the best trail running specialists, the doubts, the fatigue, the mistakes. The goal: to show how an athlete from Hyrox, used to short and explosive races, can transform their engine to handle a long-distance ultra-trail. This first episode lays the groundwork: why aim for a 100 km, how ultra-distance training works, what you need to know about the legendary Templiers Trail in Millau, and the first VO2 max tests conducted at the Brooks training camp in Barcelona. In this episode, we explore: Why take on a 100km ultra-trail when you've never run in the mountains? The profile of the Templiers Endurance Trail: technical sections, long climbs, the famous Pouncho ascent Transitioning from the Hyrox to long-distance trail running: changing your engine, changing your mindset VO2 max, ventilatory threshold, target pace: key performance indicators in ultra-endurance Mobility, strength, long runs, elevation gain: the pillars of ultra-trail training The role of sleep, nutrition, recovery, and the immune system in long-distance training Training for elevation gain when you live in Paris: constraints and practical solutions Physiological tests on a treadmill: flat running gait, uphill running gait, heart rate, oxygen consumption A documentary series for all running, trail running, ultra-trail, long-distance, and endurance enthusiasts. Whether you're aiming for your first marathon, a 50km trail run, a 100km race, or an ultra in the mountains, you'll follow a training program designed with professionals, step by step, with its successes and setbacks. Subscribe to follow the entire series up to the start of the Templiers Endurance Trail. Key concepts: VO2 max: the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise, the primary factor in endurance performance Ventilatory thresholds: key intensities for guiding training in ultra-trail running Respiratory ratio (RER): the ratio between oxygen consumed and CO2 released, an indicator of effort intensity MAP (maximal aerobic power): muscle quality trained to improve performance --- 🧠 Improve your mental game with the PERFORMER'S KIT: https://bit.ly/substack-abonnement-ex... 💌 The Performance Newsletter: https://bit.ly/newsletter-performance1 📱 Follow us on Instagram ➡️   / extraterrien.podcast   📺 Watch our reports on YouTube ➡️    / extraterrienpodcastsport   👋 Become an Extraterrien Partner ➡️ https://bit.ly/extraterrien-kit-media 🎥 Athlete: Want to develop your video skills? ➡️ https://bit.ly/extrastudio-video-marq... 🎙️ Training: Become a Pro Podcaster ➡️ https://bit.ly/podcasteur-pro 🎤 Training: Launch Your Podcast ➡️ https://bit.ly/formation-lance-ton-po... 00:00:00 The Challenge: 100 km without training 00:58 Barth, 35, a sports addict 03:35 Why a 100 km ultra-trail? 04:26 The Templiers, a legendary race 05:14 Tips from ultra runners 06:57 Method: VO2 Max and preparation 12:36 Brooks training camp and tests in Barcelona 💡 To suggest a guest ➡️ https://extraterrien.glide.page/dl/64... ** About the Extraterrien podcast ** The Extraterrien podcast is a French-language sports podcast released weekly.
