The Settlers II – Veni, Vidi, Vici is a city-building strategy game by Blue Byte. It was released in Germany in April 1996 for MS-DOS. It not only surpassed its commercially successful predecessor, The Settlers from 1993, but fifteen years later, it was even named the best-selling game in the entire The Settlers series.[1] In December 1996, Blue Byte released a mission CD containing an additional campaign and a map editor.[2] In October 1997, the Gold Edition, consisting of the original game and mission CD,[3] was released simultaneously for Mac OS[4] and in 2007 for the Nintendo DS as The Settlers DS.
