de-rusting bottom of car

I had wanted to do this when I first bought the car about 4 years ago, but there always seems to be another priority. The car was freshly imported into the UK when I bought it so was fairly rust free at that point on account that they don't use salt on the roads in Japan, so tin rot doesn't set in quite as readily as it does here! Anway, I kept having flashback of when I had a 1999 vintage landrover discovery, which had a bullet proof 300tdi engine but was just disintegrating before my eyes and I ended up scrapping it.
