Ahead of the Spring National High School Championships, we took a closer look at the current state of the Yanai Shoko High School girls' badminton team, which has achieved 10 consecutive national championships. With the third-year students graduating, this tournament will feature a new team of first and second-year students. While inheriting their past strength, a new challenge begins. From the 2021 National High School Championships to last year's Inter-High School Championships held locally, they achieved an unprecedented 10 consecutive victories. Furthermore, they achieved a complete sweep, winning all three events: team, singles, and doubles. However, this year the team has undergone significant changes, making it an unknown battle. Leading the team is first-year captain Riko Nakazawa. Although this is her first appearance in the national team competition, she is transforming the pressure into strength and maintaining an aggressive stance. Also, players who returned from an overseas tour this month have joined the team and are working on adjusting their condition. Former captain Nayu Shirakawa, who will be joining the Yonex corporate team this spring, also came to practice to support her juniors.
