Everyone wants bigger arms. The problem is that many people start in the least useful way possible. For many people who join the gym, arm training means starting with curls, pushdowns, cable extensions, and isolation work from day one. The point is that this stimulus is felt immediately, it gives an immediate perception of work, but often provides little real progress in the following months. In this video, we discuss a different perspective: in the first months of training, and often even for the entire first year, the focus should be much less peripheral and much more oriented towards learning the big multi-joint lifts. Bench presses, dips, pull-ups, military presses, and fundamental movements build strength, coordination, neural capacity, and a much more solid foundation for developing the biceps and triceps. That doesn't mean isolation is useless. It just means it needs to be introduced at the right time. First, you learn to move real loads, use your body well, generate force, and build a structure. Then the details become much more effective.
