Can This Free Husqvarna Zero Turn Be Saved From the Scrap Pile? What Would YOU Do?
Somebody gave this Husqvarna commercial zero turn mower away for free… and now we know why. In this video on Raley’s Small Engines, we dig into a rough Husqvarna P-ZT 54 commercial zero turn with a Kawasaki FX730V, commercial deck, twin fuel tanks, flat dry-rotted tires, and years of neglect. At first, this mower would not crank, would not start, and would not do much of anything. The battery needed charging, the left side tires were flat, one tire was missing a valve stem, and the mower was leaning hard to the left. We start with the simple things first — battery testing, starter testing, checking the starter solenoid, and doing a careful visual inspection. After some digging, I found a broken wire at the starter solenoid and a bad solenoid terminal. Once that was repaired, the Kawasaki engine finally turned over. A little 50:1 fuel mix in the carburetor proved it had some life left, but it also filled the shop with blue smoke. From there, I pulled the carburetor, cleaned it out, worked around a frozen choke cable, and got the engine running on its own. But this free zero turn still had plenty of problems: a bad seat switch, dry-rotted belts, the deck belt off an idler pulley, valve cover leak, flat tires, and signs the engine had been run with no oil. So the big question is: Can this free Husqvarna zero turn be saved from the scrap pile? This one is packed with no-start diagnosis, electrical troubleshooting, carburetor cleaning, Kawasaki engine testing, starter solenoid repair, mower safety switch diagnosis, and real-world small engine repair.
