Gothic 1 Remake #4: Water, Lockpicks & A Roof Of My Own

In a camp where everyone serves someone, the Nameless Hero learns there are two ways to earn your keep - sweat for it, or take it. In this fourth episode of our Gothic 1 Remake playthrough, we get our hands dirty in the rice fields of the New Camp. There's coin to be made and chests begging to be cracked, so out come the lockpicks as we lift whatever the bandits foolishly left unguarded. Between the rows of rice we meet the laborers - Rufus, Pock, Malon and the rest - and run into Lefty, a man who'd rather we fetched water than asked questions, kicking off the quest Thirsty Farmers. But errands have a way of multiplying. We haul water bottles from Ulmar, serve the parched workers under the sun... and Lefty just keeps wanting more. Meanwhile the Rice Lord sets us on a darker trail: his foreman Bran has vanished, and the search in Up To His Neck takes us prying through the fields and into the lake tavern, where Jeremiah, Cipher and the ever-slippery Silas may know more than they let on. A few more chests lighten while we're there - waste not. The episode's real prize? A home of our own. Gorn points us toward a bandit named Shrike sitting pretty in a hut he won't be keeping. We "negotiate" his eviction the old-fashioned way, claim the roof in A Roof Over My Head, and report the happy news back to Gorn. The Hero finally has four walls to call his own in this lawless place. A roof is ours, but Bran is still missing and the tavern hides ugly secrets. What really happened to him?
