VN24 - 22.09.2020 - Werl / Germany - A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday morning between the freeway junction Werl (A44/A445) and the freeway junction Unna-Ost on the A44. Three truck drivers were injured, some of them seriously, and the highway was closed for several hours in the direction of Dortmund. According to initial investigations, traffic jammed in the right lane towards Dortmund at around 08:15 am. Several truck drivers thereupon slowed down their vehicles. For reasons as yet unknown, this was apparently overlooked by a 31-year-old German with his dump truck approaching from behind. It collided with the rear of a small truck at high speed. The 55-year-old driver was then pushed onto the already standing semi-trailer truck of a 61-year-old from Poland. This truck also slid against the rear of another truck-trailer combination. The driver of the van was incredibly lucky that his vehicle was squeezed out of the space between the trucks and hurled forward. A total of four trucks were involved in the collision - three were heavily damaged and had to be towed away. Three of the four drivers were taken to hospital.
