His head is still very much awake, which anyone who assumed death at decapitation should have anticipated. And while his body is elsewhere, he's in a dream: transcribing the music of hidden birds in a forest, hungry, following the sound of a city until a murder of waiters carrying silver dome trays appears on his path. Come now. No falling behind. The episode runs two confessionals in parallel and cuts between them without mercy. Armand has orchestrated the world's most deranged apology extraction — Louis held at table, the proceedings live-cast to a room of researchers in Budapest, his fledglings called forward to state their names for the record, a soul-count clock ticking down. Armand's own amends are extraordinary: I took aesthetic pleasure making your death visually exhilarating; that lie lay like a corpse in the boiler room of our companionship; as for the many boys you drained, I welcomed your straying because of your guilt in their aftermath. Leader of a cult for four hundred years. This is not an apology. It's your turn. Meanwhile, inside Lestat's inner tribunal, the failure finders have assembled — Magnus, Gabriela, every name on the ledger — and the verdict is unanimous. Lestat's response: I think I was pretty great. If I failed, that means I actually attempted something, which is more than I can say for most of those I love. The concert happens. Something breaks open at the end. He wakes on his tour bus in the woods, walks back to his apartment, and steps onto the balcony. The city is in ruins. Post-reaction: Mikel-Claire's first word is "confused." The episode's parallel structure kept cutting between the two confessionals before either one landed, and it ran herky-jerky all the way through the finale.
