House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 5 REACTION | "Fishfeed" | Syntell & Mikel-Claire Syntell and Mikel-Claire react to House of the Dragon, Season 3, Episode 5 — "Fishfeed." Criston Cole has turned the Riverlands into a hunting ground. Tarly's march has slowed, crossings keep burning, and Cole moves through enemy territory like a man who has finally found his purpose — cutting supply lines, torching supplies, calling Tarly's forces a band of hangers-on and meaning it. But the river men have crossed and burned the bridge behind them, and now there's no crossing with all that armor and no orders coming through from the other side. Cole has two paths: return humbled under a Hightower banner and serve his third house in a row as a grateful servant, or march what's left of his men straight into the jaws of it and die as the realm's greatest warrior, with songs to follow. He knows which one he's choosing. Aegon II is studying Meria Martell of Dorne — a blind princess, hideous, hairless, thick of waste, who poisoned her wells, hid her soldiers in the sand, and slaughtered the Targaryens in their beds the moment they thought her vanquished. The cunning mind can resist the most savage of beasts. Checkmate. But Larys Strong has stopped pretending. He finds Aegon, says his piece, and walks out: you could have risen to greatness, but instead you trampled your birthright in the mud; you were a terrible king, but worse than that, you are a terrible man. Meanwhile Alicent — hiding in the tunnels with Helaena — corners Mysaria and names her clearly: I know who you are, I know what you're capable of, and a time may come when you need the Hightowers. And at the end: Aemond. Alive. Healing fast. Sapphire catching the dark, wrapped up with Alys Rivers, still burning in his dreams — but here. Post-reaction: the central debate is Rhaenyra. Syntell makes the case that she walked into King's Landing with two swords and no plan — no council, no gold, no military, no intelligence network inside her own castle. Mikel-Claire pushes back: first day on the job isn't starting from scratch, and she didn't have the luxury of five years to prepare. The argument is genuine and both sides land. Cole gets his own thread — is it wrong to lead your men to certain death for your own legend? Larys and Alicent are at this point the two characters playing the game cleanest, in pure survival mode, seeing the board clearly while nearly everyone else is running straight into traffic. And could Aemond, without the fury, have been a decent king? Mikel-Claire thinks so. She may not be wrong.
