Stop Bracing for Bad News. Let God Steady Your Heart / Morning Prayer

You woke up bracing for bad news before the day even began. This morning prayer is for the person whose phone has not lit up yet, whose inbox has not been opened yet, whose day has not fully started yet, but whose heart is already guarded. Maybe nothing has happened, but your body is already preparing for impact. Your shoulders are tight. Your chest is tense. Your mind is waiting for the other shoe to drop. This prayer is for the morning when fear keeps knocking before anything has even gone wrong. Today, we bring that fear to God. We ask Him to steady our hearts before the news is clear, before the email opens, before the phone buzzes, before the conversation happens, and before the day asks anything from us. This prayer is rooted in Psalm 112:7, Matthew 6:34, and Psalm 46:1–2. Psalm 112:7 says, They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Matthew 6:34 reminds us not to drag tomorrow’s trouble into today’s mercy. Psalm 46 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. You do not have to live today under the authority of bad news you have not received. You do not have to answer every knock fear makes in your mind. You can let God’s peace reach the door first.
