Southwest USA Roadtrip - Grand Canyon National Park

Impressions of our stay at the South Rim of Grand Canyon. When we arrived we heard the thunder roar in the distance. And the saying goes “when thunder roars, go indoors” I was hoping for a Native American performance at the Desert View Watchtower, but there was nothing scheduled at the time. Climbing the tower and see the beautiful murals would only be possible after waiting another hour to open, so we decided to head to our hotel and find a parking spot on Memorial Day.. After some short stops on the way we were lucky to find one. My son was planning to do a strenuous hike the next day and I tried my luck to book a mule tour to Havasupai Gardens. But unfortunately only the rim tour was still available. Time for a Fred Harvey Burger at the Bright Angel Lodge. After dinner the weather calmed and we were treated with some fabulous views during our stroll until sunset. We admired Mary Colter’s architecture and went to the Kolb Studio, which tells the story of the brothers Kolb who were brave enough to embark on a journey on the Colorado and made incredible photographs in 1911 The next morning we enjoyed the famous Eggs Benedict and took the shuttle to several stops along the rim. In the afternoon our ways seperated at the first tunnel of the Bright Angel Trail. I pose at the trailhead as if I touched the Colorado water, but in fact I made my way back to the rim, while Hugo, my son, continued and did a combination of the Bright Angel- and the South Kaibab Trail. After a short break in the hotel room, I visited Hopi House and walked the light, but beautiful Trail of Time. For a more complete impression of this trail, watch    • Trail of Time @ Grand Canyon National Park   Hugo and I met at the Cocktail Lounge where we reminisced our wonderful day.
