Travelling Through Thailand the Old School Way 🇹🇭
📍Chanthaburi, Thailand 🇹🇭 Left Koh Samet with salt on our skin and the sea still in our heads. Grabbed one last coffee on the walk to the pier, dreaming of sipping it on a breezy ride back to the mainland. Instead, we paid for our earlier cheapness. While everyone else boarded their shiny speedboats, we waited two hours in the industrial end of the port for our old fishing boat to appear. When it did, the waves weren’t kind. We swayed across the sea like laundry on a line. On land, needing comfort, we turned to the holy trinity of the Japanese convenience store lunch: Pocari Sweat, onigiri, and a soft-boiled onsen egg. Sat on the pavement outside and ate it the proper way. No chairs, no cutlery, just salt, sweat and silence. Then came the bus. Grabbed a ride to the station hoping for a smooth hop to Chanthaburi. Of course not. Forty minutes became an hour in the heat, and when the bus arrived we scored the worst seats in the house, bouncing over every pothole this side of the Mekong. Paige caught a trapped nerve. I was just counting the minutes to freedom. But then, Thailand did what Thailand always does. The homestay host was waiting for us at the station with the kind of warmth that makes you forget the last five hours. @SkintNortherners didn’t miss with this one. Baan Rao Na Chan in Chanthaburi was an oasis. ( / baanraonachan ) Garden, cats, calm. Some of the kindest people we’ve ever met. While Paige nursed her back, I wandered out and found a roadside spot, nothing fancy, no English menu. I ordered in butchered Thai and was handed a plate of crispy pork so perfect it made me question everything. Sometimes, a good meal is the only therapy you need. Thanks for tagging along. Can’t wait to show you Chanthaburi in the daylight. 👨🏻💻 Give us a follow on your favorite social media: / jackaynsleytravel / jackaynsleytravel & / paigeaynsleytravel / jackaynsleytravel & / paigeaynsleytravel 👋🏼 Support us!
