DF no.353 - 'Farewell, 2025' - Improvised drum solo about my year, played on White Ghost kit 1/1/ 26

Trying to sum up my year in a drum improvisation... Our year, maybe. I don't know anyone who found 2025 to be a smooth and joyful ride. For many, it was full of stress, tension and uncertainty; for some, violence, suffering, hopelessness and loss. For me, there were a fair number of bright spots to balance the stress and anxiety. It's been a good year for musical pursuits, creativity in general, and valuable friendships. I have an awful lot to be thankful for. It's a big ask to reflect all of this by banging on a pile of percussion instruments, but I was trying to mix the tension and unease with some lighter and nicer things, and keep it all shorter than last year's effort. This was one continuous, unedited take (the 5th attempt, I think), on 1st January, 2026. I had a go at this on Tuesday 30th Dec. - see DF no.352    • DF no.352 - 'Farewell to 2025' - improvise...   There are ten vintage drums in today's White Ghost setup, including five bass drums from 20" up to 29.5". Most are Premier drums, the oldest over 90 years. The cymbals are vintage Wuhan Chinas, a Paiste 2002 Sound Disk, a Sabian Will Calhoun Alien Disc, and some very trashy old, battered things. The 20" cymbal is an A. Zildjian Pang Ride (1970s?). Recorded on 2 Tascam TR-100 recorders - one either side of the kit, and a small overhead condenser mic into one of the two Nikon DSLRs.
