#railway #GDR #nostalgia #EastGermany #trainstation A large crowd gathered at Chemnitz Central Station around 11 a.m. on Sunday, the turnaround point for the SVT (express multiple unit) on its short Saxony loop to and from Dresden-Neustadt. After six years of restoration starting in 2019, the GDR's international long-distance train is now operational again. Its former timetable names were "Vindobona," "Neptun," "Berlinaren," and "Karlex." Shown here on two special excursions at Chemnitz Central Station and on the railway line to Freiberg. There were so many interested people that it was impossible to film and photograph without people in the shots. Class 175, "Görlitz design," are diesel-hydraulic high-speed multiple units (SVT) of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR), built between 1965 and 1968 as a "prestige train" for GDR international long-distance service.
