TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, MAROS - An Indonesian migrant worker (TKI) from Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, Valenth Alexie Tamboto (24), reportedly died after allegedly being murdered in the Republic of Armenia on Wednesday (July 15, 2026). The victim was found in a dormitory room or hotel where he was staying in a gruesome condition. According to information received by the family and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI), the victim's hands, feet, and mouth were bound with duct tape, and his body was covered in blood. The incident attracted public attention after the sad news spread on social media. Valenth was known to be a resident of Rimau Hamlet, Moncongloe Lappara Village, Moncongloe District, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi. Moncongloe District is an area in the eastern part of Maros Regency, directly bordering Makassar City and has become a residential area that has developed in recent years. Tribune Timur observed at the funeral home on Monday (July 20, 2026), the victim's family home appeared closed and deserted. Only a few residents were seen passing by the house. There was no visible family activity as they were at the home of other relatives in Makassar City. The Village Head of Moncongloe Lappara, Sirajuddin, confirmed this information when met. He said the victim's family had lived in Moncongloe Lappara for the past four to five years. "He is indeed our resident. His ID card is also here," Sirajuddin told Tribun Timur. He explained that Valenth was around 24 years old and the eldest of three siblings. Sirajuddin said the victim left for Armenia about three months ago to work as an Indonesian Migrant Worker (TKI). Indonesian migrant workers (TKI) is the term for Indonesian citizens who work abroad under a fixed-term employment agreement. Before working in Armenia, the victim was known to have worked in the Philippines for several years. "He migrated to Armenia about three months ago. He had worked abroad before that too," he said. He admitted that the village government did not yet know the exact chronology of the victim's death and was still awaiting official information from the family and the government. "According to the information circulating, it is suspected to be a murder. But we are still waiting for official information," he said. He said the village government had communicated with the family and the local Babinsa (village supervisor). The village government, he said, was also awaiting direction from the Maros Regency Government regarding the steps to be taken. "This includes any assistance needed in the repatriation of the body," he said. As of Monday (July 20, 2026), the schedule for the body's repatriation to Indonesia was unknown. Meanwhile, the victim's neighbor, Mustamin, remembered Valenth as a friendly and sociable person. "He was a kind, friendly person who often socialized with his neighbors," he said. He said that before leaving for Armenia, the victim had said goodbye to his neighbors. "When he left, he said, 'I'm going now, Uncle,'" he recalled. He said the news of Valenth's death shocked and saddened local residents. "Everyone feels a loss because he had a good relationship with the residents during his time here," he said.
