Webinar 12: Nutritional Intervention in Primary Care I: Risk Identification and Patient Context

Dr. Yiselly Vázquez Guzmán presented the topic of older adults, addressing the definition and heterogeneity of the aging process, as well as demographic data and nutritional vulnerability in this population. She also discussed the concept of ageism, explaining what it is, how it affects older individuals, and strategies to prevent it. Finally, she introduced the transition toward a clinical approach, emphasizing the importance of identifying nutritional risk and why this aspect is essential in geriatric care. Valery Rivera Hiraldo, MBA, presented the importance of identifying nutritional risk in older adults, with emphasis on the management of weight loss, sarcopenia, and frailty. She also highlighted the need to integrate medical and nutritional care within the geriatric setting. In addition, she addressed practical strategies for managing appetite loss and age-related anorexia, promoting a comprehensive approach to the care of this population.
