Making Sense of Your Sexual Story with Adam Young
Adam Young, therapist and author of Make Sense of Your Story, offers a grounded way to understand why the stories we carry matter so deeply in dating and relationships. He helps name how family of origin, bodily cues, sexual desire, self-contempt, and emotional patterns are all connected to the way we move toward or away from love. This conversation is for anyone who has wondered why something feels familiar, activating, or hard to name, and what it actually takes. One of the most honest insights Adam offers is that our nervous system often recognizes “home” before our mind can explain it. That can be beautiful, but it can also lead us back into old wounds if we are not paying attention. The body is not something to silence or shame. It is a truth teller, carrying memory, longing, fear, and desire in ways that invite us into a more embodied and compassionate relationship with ourselves. Instead of framing healing as something we complete before marriage, Adam points to a deeper kind of formation. The work is learning to bring hospitality to our memories, curiosity to our attraction, and kindness to the places where contempt has taken root. In that process, integrity looks like being willing to look at ourselves honestly, and connection becomes possible when both people are willing to do that work with care. What to pay attention to is whether someone can honor your vulnerability without rescuing, dismissing, or using it against you. Notice how they respond when emotion enters the room, when patterns are named, and when repair is needed. Healthy love is not built on having no wounds, but on the willingness to tell the truth with compassion, practice discernment with clarity, and trust yourself as you move forward. = About Adam Young = Adam Young is a therapist who focuses on trauma and abuse, the host of The Place We Find Ourselves podcast, and the author of Make Sense of Your Story: Why Engaging Your Past With Kindness Changes Everything.
