[Reporter] Yes, where I am standing is the site where temporary housing used to be. Now, the houses have vanished without a trace, and the ground here has turned into a complete mud puddle. Temporary housing has been swept away by about 30 meters due to the heavy rain that fell last night. This area suffered significant damage from the wildfires in Uiseong and Andong last year. The damaged area consists of temporary housing where residents affected by the wildfires live together. The rising waters swept away the temporary houses, and the interiors have turned into a complete mud pit. As record-breaking torrential rain poured down on northern Gyeongbuk, Andong City and Uiseong County issued emergency evacuation orders to residents early this morning. Andong City urgently evacuated about 60 residents following the issuance of a flood warning. In Uiseong County, approximately 150 people, including residents of Danchon-myeon and campers at a campsite, also took refuge in nearby village halls and cultural centers. [Anchor] The situation seems serious. Is damage recovery underway? [Reporter] Yes, an excavator arrived at the site just a short while ago. We can see people removing tree branches that were swept away by the torrent. Officials from Andong City, the fire department, and the Korea Electric Power Corporation were also seen at the flood site assessing the damage. Recovery efforts have just begun. Some residents have come outside out of concern. Residents say they still feel dizzy when they think about last night's torrential rain. One resident recounted that they tried to come out to check on the situation out of fear that the pouring rain might cause a landslide, but were panicked because the front door wouldn't open. Describing the tense situation at the time, they explained that the water was submerged up to their waists and they had to evacuate through a window. They added that when they came outside, the pavilion in front of the village had completely collapsed, and the road had been swept away by the torrent, leaving a large pit deep in the ground. Urgent emergency recovery work is needed for houses and roads damaged by the torrential rain. The fire department and local government plan to continue on-site safety measures while closely monitoring for additional damage.
