Just as the ruined house was reborn as a stylish home, the couple's second act of life is a flowery path every day. They enjoy the fun of growing corn, eggplant, and tomatoes in their small vegetable garden, and on sweltering summer days, they grind soybeans themselves using a millstone to make Kongguksu, a midsummer delicacy. With a stream flowing behind the traditional house, they say there is no need to go anywhere else for a summer retreat... A couple bickering as they dye each other's hands with balsam flowers picked from the backyard. The couple's happiness fills the Ice Valley. (2) Our Neighborhood's Best Summer Spot Part 1: Wise Summer Life in the Remote Area (00:14:43~00:31:34) Gamasil (Gonggi 2-ri), located at the foot of Mt. Sambang in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, is a remote village with just over eight households. These days, Lee Yong-woo and Wi Ok-ja are struggling to protect their corn, which is about to be shipped, from wild boars! On top of that, the couple is incredibly busy tending to the high-altitude grapes that have begun to ripen under the hot summer sun. At times like these, the sound of cool water is desperately longed for. “When it gets hot while working, coming here to wash our faces is really refreshing.” When their bodies and minds are parched from farming, the place the couple seeks is a small valley nestled in the bushes next to the vineyard. With trees blocking the sky and a cool stream flowing, this is a summer retreat known only to the locals. We take a look at this humble yet refreshing summer getaway, a favorite spot for a couple who say that dipping their feet in the water and enjoying a spoonful of gondre bibimbap makes them feel as comfortable as the immortals of Mureungdo. Danim Village is nestled deep in a valley within Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province, which is known for its remote areas. Living in this remote region at an altitude of 700 meters is the home of the couple Yoo Dong-yeol and Lee Ok-kyung. “The heat ends the moment you step right in here. It just vanishes.” The couple, who moved to Danim Village to farm 20 years ago, enjoy a self-sufficient life in the wilderness. Their secret to surviving the summer in this remote area is Artemisia capillaris tea. They say they harvest the mugwort themselves, roast it, and make tea to get through every summer; roasting tea in the middle of summer is a task that makes you sweat profusely. However, they say there is no reason to go on vacation anywhere else, as a single wash in the ice-cold stream flowing in front of the village is enough to completely wash away the heat.
