Repertoire: IDEAL 20th Century Violin Concertos
The proliferation of great violin concerts is a resoundingly 20th century phenomenon, as both the quality and quantity of works considered here attest. None of these pieces are rarities on disc, happily, so great recordings should be easy to source. Here is my list--and you should feel free to add any that I have left out, as long as they were composed between about 1910-60. Have fun, and keep on listening! Correction: As one of the commenters kindly noted, the Vengerov disc of Britten and Walton concertos actually contains the Walton Viola Concerto, not the Violin Concerto. For the Britten/Walton pairing on a single disc, go for Ida Haendel on Warner. I had meant to show that one too but in my desire to give Vengerov (a great violinist) some attention I simply forgot about it!
