First Impressions of China’s Most Futuristic Mega City | Shenzhen 🇨🇳

In this video, I explore Shenzhen, China’s most futuristic mega city, a place that went from a small village to a 17 million person modern city in only around 40 years. I start on the outskirts of Shenzhen and take the metro into the city centre for the first time. Even the subway system feels futuristic, with QR code payments, security scanners, huge underground stations, multiple levels, and trains arriving every few minutes. The craziest part is that a metro ride in one of the most modern cities in the world only cost me around 50 cents. Then I arrive in central Shenzhen and quickly realise this city is almost impossible to understand in one day. There are skyscrapers everywhere, underground plazas, shopping malls, pink unicorn statues, fake cherry blossoms, cactuses, palm trees, and some of the greenest city streets I have ever seen in China. After that, I go searching for the world’s biggest tech market in Shenzhen. I find huge electronics markets filled with drones, robots, power banks, smartwatches, cameras, phone accessories, mini phones, keyboards, headphones, CCTV cameras, and random gadgets I have never seen before. Shenzhen really feels like China’s tech capital. Later, I explore another district of the city and realise Shenzhen is not just futuristic, it is also one of the greenest and most alive cities I have visited. There are parks, flowers, trees, basketball courts, motorbikes, families, shopping centres, underground malls, waterfalls, performances, and people everywhere. At the end of the day, even my hotel in Shenzhen feels futuristic when a robot brings water straight to my room. This was my first real day exploring Shenzhen, and honestly, it shocked me. I knew China was modern, but I did not expect Shenzhen to feel this advanced, green, huge, clean, affordable, and futuristic all at the same time.
