The shortest distance between two points is the distance between a poem and its reader or listener. Good poetry is not a self-portrait, but a mirror; it doesn't tell the story of the writer, but that of its readers. A good poem changes our perception of the things it names, giving them another dimension that often restores their true identity: scissors are a "bird that flies in hair salons" because Neruda said so, but since then they have never been the same for those who know that line. Good poetry makes us think, unearths treasures, saves, heals, beautifies, sharpens our vision, makes us less easily manipulated: poetry is just as necessary as ever, but also more so than ever. He is a Spanish novelist, essayist, and poet. He has received numerous awards, including the Hiperión Prize, the Ciudad de Melilla International Poetry Prize, the Andalucía Novel Prize, and the Generación del 27 Prize.
