Restored! ATSF 5704's First Run for America's 250th Anniversary! 7/4/2026

Today ATSF 5704 made its first revenue run following restoration at the Southern California Museum located in Perris. This EMD SD45-2 was one of 5 to carry a special livery painted by the Santa Fe Railway to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the independence of the United States in 1976, and now proudly wears the scheme once again after donation by ATSF's successor BNSF. Today it made numerous runs on the tracks owned by the SCRM, allowing for a plethora of photo opportunities both at the museum, and on the right of way they own. Initially, FP45 ATSF 108 was on the trains as training wheels, but it was dropped after a few runs to let 5704 run on its own. It is quite rare to see two EMD 45 class locomotives running together. Thank you for watching!
