Deilingen (D - BW) Die Glocken der Pfarrkirche Christi Himmelfahrt und Marienkapelle

This video presents the bells e1 -g1 -a1 -h1 [mi3 -sol3 -la3 si3] of of Ascension Parish Church and St Mary’s Chapel in Deilingen, Southern Germany. Deilingen is home to one of the first postwar sets of bells cast by the Grüninger Foundry, which had established itself in Neu-Ulm in 1948. Almost exactly ten years after the foundry had been forcibly expropriated by the Nazis in Villingen, bell casting resumed in Neu-Ulm. The smaller bells [2+3+4] in Deilingen, dating from mid-1948, are particularly noteworthy. Not only are they made of standard bell bronze, but they also constitute one of the few sets of bells produced at that time using the foundry’s “heavy shape” technique. The large bell [1] apparently did not turn out well in the first casting and was recast in 1949. Not all of the bells are entirely convincing due to the year of casting. While the small bell still sounds rather lacking in resonance and shrill, the larger instruments are relatively fine examples that can certainly hold their own against the foundry’s later work [1]. A thoroughly remarkable casting achievement for 1948!
