After staying at a local homestay, our guide leads us through remote mining villages and abandoned workings before taking us deep inside the tunnels. We venture nearly 1 mile underground to witness where mining still takes place today — a harsh and dangerous environment few ever see. Mining here began in the 1920s during the French era, and today local miners continue working in these challenging conditions.
