Meet the Last Tattooed Warriors of Nagaland

Among the Konyak Nagas of Nagaland, tattooing once marked warfare, status and identity within the community. Historically linked to clan structures, rites of passage and hunting traditions, the practice formed an important part of Konyak cultural life. Today, the remaining tattooed elders represent the last living generation to bear these traditional markings. This practice was documented as part of The Great Himalayan Exploration – Edition 2.
