Lebang Boomani: Celebrating The Coming in of Insects

In the hills of Tripura, the rhythms of agriculture come alive through the movements of the Lebang Boomani dance. Practised by the Tripuri community after the sowing season and before the monsoon, the dance recreates the appearance of colourful lebang insects believed to signal prosperity and a good harvest. Combining music, ecological knowledge and celebration, Lebang Boomani remains one of Tripura’s most recognisable folk traditions.
