Repairing a Damaged Gate Arm at Industrial Parkway, Hayward, CA 07/03/2026🇺🇸

Like with many crossings on the Niles Subdivision, this one features 2 Safetran cantilevers that were installed in the late 1980s or 1990s. One of the crossing gates was broken, possibly from wind. Capitol Corridor 543 South passed, following the restricted speed procedure for a malfunctioning crossing. At around this time, a signal maintainer from Union Pacific arrived and repaired the gate. While he was installing the new gate, Capitol Corridor 542 North passed, also following the speed restriction procedure. Note the former Caltrain MPI F40 in the consist. Caltrans leased 3 of these from Caltrain to help with a locomotive shortage issue. This video shows the entire process of the signal maintainer replacing the gate.
