Honoring Sen no Rikyu: A Rikyu-ki Tea Ceremony Practice and Reflection @teaharmonybysoryu
Welcome to my tea room! As I navigate the stress of tax season working remotely for a CPA firm in New Jersey, I find peace and clarity through the practice of the tea ceremony. In this video, I commemorate Rikyu-ki, the annual memorial for Sen no Rikyu, the most influential figure in the Way of Tea. I will perform a traditional tea offering called Chato to pay my respects, using special utensils like the Tenmoku-dai and Tenmoku-chawan. You'll also see the beautiful Nanohana (rapeseed blossoms), symbolizing Rikyu's final offering, and a portrait of Rikyu accompanied by his death poem, written by Kobori Jyotai. I’m wearing a washable Houmongi kimono with a cherry blossom design, paired with a yellow Nagoya-obi to match the Nanohana. Practical yet elegant, it’s the perfect choice for a day of reflection and practice. Throughout the video, I’ll share insights about the customs and rituals of Rikyu-ki, as well as personal reflections on how Japanese traditions continue to inspire mindfulness and gratitude in daily life. Thank you for watching, and I hope this glimpse into the world of tea brings a sense of calm and appreciation to your day. ☕ If you enjoyed this video, please like, comment, and subscribe for more tea ceremony insights and cultural experiences! #teaceremony #RikyuKi #SenNoRikyu #Omotesenke #WayOfTea #Chado #JapaneseCulture #Kimono #TeaPractice
