Longevity durch Krafttraining?

Stronger = longer life. That's what science says. 💪 A new study (LaMonte et al., 2026, JAMA Network Open) followed 5,472 women between the ages of 63 and 99 for over eight years – and the result is clear: Those with greater muscle strength die less often. Two simple tests were measured: → Grip strength (hand dynamometer) → Stand-up test (5 times standing up from a chair) Women in the strongest quartile had a 33% lower risk of death than the weakest group. And the crucial point: The effect persisted even after the researchers controlled for endurance exercise, sitting time, walking speed, and inflammatory markers. Strength is therefore not a bonus – it is an independent protective factor. Especially important: Even women who did not meet general exercise recommendations benefited from increased strength. This means: Even if you're not currently doing much endurance exercise – strength training is still worthwhile. Practical conclusion: ✅ Strength training at least twice a week ✅ Grip strength is an underestimated health marker ✅ Getting stronger protects you – at any age 📄 LaMonte et al.
