The Ultimate 7ft Planer Sled (2m) - How to eliminate Snipe!

I will show you that it doesn't matter which thickness planer you use—this massive 7ft (2m) sled is a total game-changer designed to work for all of them. In this build, I’m tackling the limitations of factory tables to ensure you never waste expensive hardwoods again. This universal setup is engineered to eliminate snipe once and for all, providing a perfectly flat reference surface for any benchtop planer on the market. Unlike standard sleds, this one features a smooth metal surface for an industrial-grade glide and a universal "no-screw" design that fits almost any portable thickness planer (DeWalt, Makita, Metabo, etc.). Project Dimensions & Materials List for DeWalt 733 Main Bed (Surface): Melamine Board (18mm / 3/4"): 1 pc @ 2000 x 315 mm (78 3/4" x 12 3/8") Aluminum Sheet (1mm): 1 pc @ 2000 x 315 mm (78 3/4" x 12 3/8") Support Structure (18mm / 3/4" Melamine): Box Sides: 4 pcs @ 835 x 74 mm (32 7/8" x 2 29/32") Box Ends & Braces: 6 pcs @ 279 x 74 mm (11" x 2 29/32") Top Reinforcements: 4 pcs @ 279 x 100 mm (11" x 3 15/16") Decorative & Finishing Touches: Side Panels (10mm MDF - Yellow): 4 pcs @ 995 x 100 mm (39 3/16" x 3 15/16") End Caps (10mm MDF - Black): 2 pcs @ 332 x 74 mm (13 1/16" x 2 29/32") Plastic Corner Guards: 4 pcs @ 10 x 10 mm (3/8" x 3/8") Quick Build Steps: The Base: Assemble the support boxes using the 18mm melamine pieces to create a rigid, non-flexible frame. Top Alignment: Mount the main 2000mm melamine board onto the reinforcements. Ensure it is perfectly flat across its entire length. The Glide: Apply ultra-thin double-sided tape across the melamine top. Carefully lay the aluminum sheet over it. This method ensures a perfectly flat surface without the mess or thickness variations of traditional glue. Aesthetics: Install the 10mm MDF side panels. These are painted (Yellow/Black) for that pro-tool look and added side rigidity. Finishing: Add the plastic corner guards to protect the edges and prevent the aluminum sheet from catching on anything. Join the Journey!
