MFFD – Production Technology for the Thermoplastic Fuselage of Tomorrow
The DLR Institute of Structures and Design in Augsburg, Germany, has completed the production of a full-scale upper fuselage half test shell for the Clean Sky 2 Multifunctional Fuselage Demonstrator (MFFD). Together with our partners AIRBUS, Premium AEROTEC, and Aernnova Aerospace, we will deliver the upper shell for the 8-meter-long MFFD in 2023. The so-called test shell was produced to successfully validate all the production technologies for thermoplastic composites required to produce the MFFD upper shell. The achievements of this major milestone within this European project were recently shown at the International Conference and Exhibition on Thermoplastic Composites in Bremen which was awarded with the best paper award.
