Violin: Edappally Ajithkumar Mridangam: Kottayam G Santhoshkumar Ghadam: Kottayam Unnikrishnan This beautiful Tamil composition by Arunachala Kavi is based on the Ramayana episode in which Queen Kaikeyi, influenced by her maid Manthara (Kooni), demands that Bharata be crowned king in place of Rama and that Rama be exiled to the forest. Cast as a dramatic dialogue, the song vividly depicts the palace intrigue and Manthara's calculated attempts to persuade Kaikeyi to claim the two boons granted to her by King Dasharatha. While the lyrics reflect Manthara's manipulative rhetoric, they also subtly highlight Rama's nobility, his unquestionable virtue, and his rightful claim to the throne. The dramatic contrast between Manthara's scheming words and Rama's exalted character lends the composition remarkable emotional depth and theatrical appeal, making it one of the most memorable musical portrayals of this pivotal episode from the Ramayana. Pallavi Ramanukku Mannan Mudi Thariththaaley Nanmai undorukkaaley ( Ramanukku ) Anupallavi Paamaraney unakku ennadi pechu Pazham nazhuvi paalil vizhundaarpol aachey ( Ramanukku ) Charanam 1 Inda vaarthai sonnaai enakevar neradi brahmaadigalum varuvaaradi Iduve nalla seeradi vaayaadaade paaradi aaradu enakku chari ( Ramanukku ) Charanam 2 Parasuraaman garvam teerthavandi (avan) nammai ellaam kaapavandi Pattam katta ethavandi (Raaman) pattam katta ethavandi naalu peril moothavandi avan thaan en kanmani ( Ramanukku ) ----------------------------------------------------------- Meaning: King Dasharatha consulted his advisors and decided to anoint Rama with the title “Prince Regent” (Yuvaraja) and praises the merits and virtues of Rama. If Rama wears the crown there will be benefits for all. You ignoramus, the news (you brought) is like a delicious fruit having slipped into milk (making it all the more delicious). You brought this good news. There is nobody who is equal to me now. The celestials (including Brahma) will attend this event. This is a very pleasant one. Do not argue. Look there is nobody who is equal to me. He (Rama) quelled the arrogance of Parshurama . He saved us all (from disaster). He is the oldest of the four (brothers). He is the right person to wear the crown. He is my darling. If Bharathan (my son) does not get the crown that does not make him inferior. Is he someone sweet (like a sugar candy)? My (other) son Rama is not bitter. Am I inferior? I shall dispense with you (if you continue this argument) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER : These songs have been uploaded for hearing pleasure only and as an archive for Carnatic music.
