Gurucharan (born 21 June 1982) is one of the foremost young Carnatic vocalists in India today. The grandson of Sikkil Kunjumani of the internationally acclaimed Sikkil Sisters flute duo, he inherits a rich musical lineage. Gurucharan began his formal training under Vaigal Shri S. Gnanaskandan and continues to be mentored by Shri B. Krishnamurthy. An ‘A-grade’ artist of All India Radio, he was also featured by India Today among the “35 Game Changers Under 35” in India. His concert career began with his debut performance at the prestigious Music Academy, Chennai in 1994, and since then he has grown into a highly sought-after performer known for both classical depth and contemporary versatility. While rooted firmly in the Carnatic tradition, he has collaborated with artists across genres, contributed to the Grammy-nominated project Miles from India, and explored innovative formats such as combining Carnatic vocals with piano. His artistic presence also extends to cinema, with appearances in films like Sarvam Thaala Mayam and Putham Pudhu Kaalai. Alongside these diverse ventures, Gurucharan remains deeply committed to upholding and spreading the Carnatic heritage through concerts, festivals, and educational outreach for younger generations.
