Jigsaws persönliches Big Brother Haus mit Spritzen und Sägen | Saw 2 Review & Analyse
The low-budget film Saw remains one of the highest-grossing horror films ever produced. No one would have imagined that the debut film by two Australian film students would be so successful. And the producers of Saw quickly realized how much potential this franchise had. A sequel was needed, and as soon as possible. But since Saw's fathers, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, were busy with other projects, a new director was needed. Darren Lynn Bousman took on the job. He hadn't yet directed any major film projects. But as James Wan and Leigh Whannell had proven, you don't need outstanding experience or reputation to make a great film. Did Bousman deliver with Saw 2, building on the success of the original? 00:00 The New Director 02:09 The Death Mask Trap 03:59 You Tattoo Your Informants? 06:00 Jigsaw's Workshop 08:08 The Kiln Trap 09:21 Jigsaw's Motifs 10:44 Experimental Color Grading 11:39 The Syringe Pit 13:54 A Complicated Club 14:19 The Forearm Trap 17:07 The Final Plot Twist 17:56 Conclusion and Rating Conclusion and Rating of Saw 2: Horror sequels. They rarely produce anything useful. The formula: more blood, more violence, more promiscuous teenagers, and more money for the production studio never goes out of style. And, of course, the teat of Saw 2 was milked extensively. As befits a product to be marketed, Lionsgate quickly figured out what audiences particularly liked about Saw: the torture traps and the plot twist ending. And that's exactly what SAW 2 focuses on. The death traps are more perfidious and the violence more explicit. At one point, John Kramer even says, "There will be blood." Yes, there will be blood, but the completely silly, hyper-stereotypical characters combined with the mediocre acting often just leave us shrugging our shoulders. Another victim of Jigsaw. Choppy, the next one. True psychological depth and a thought-provoking plot twist ending are nowhere to be found in SAW 2. SAW 2 clumsily throws everything in our faces. But anyone who has intellectual expectations of a horror genre film like SAW 2 can only be disappointed. For what Saw 2 aims to be, it's still a lot of fun. The new torture traps offer a tense thrill, and Jigsaw's master plan remains hidden until the big finale. And I also think the further development of Jigsaw's character is successful. SAW 2 doesn't demystify Jigsaw, but rather clarifies his motives, all neatly wrapped up in the skin of actor Tobin Bell. Or, if I had to summarize SAW 2 in other words: The character Jigsaw gets more meat on his bones, and his victims have less meat on their bones by the end of the film. The sets also contribute to Jigsaw's character. Jigsaw's tinkering workshop, in particular, is magnificently visualized and expands our understanding of his character. I find the color grading in the film a bit daring in places, but I like it. SAW 2 stays true to its core aspects, but turns up the heat a bit with the amount of blood and John Kramer, aka Jigsaw. For me, SAW 2 is one of the better horror sequels. For that, SAW 2 gets a solid 6.9 out of 10.
