Baviaanskloof: Part 2 The Wilderness Nature Reserve.

Let's finish Baviaanskloof roadtrip! The Studtispoort is not a challenging gravel road and can easily be done by sedan vehicle. There are nine river crossings, but most were dry and others low when we crossed. The village has a school and church. The Dutch reformed church was rebuilt in 1917 after the flood. The western entrance into the Nature reserve had such friendly staff. We had to pay conservation fees of R158 for the two of us. They accept cash only, but you do get a paper permit. I want to show you more of what the road looks like in the wilderness area in the reserve than really the scenery. It is rough in places and safer to cover in a 4x4 vehicle. The reason to do this trip is the scenery and challenge though. The corners, curves and bends are horrific not to mention the steep falls on the sides. The road is narrow and only fits one vehicle at a time in most places. Paving helps with the steep incline or descend but gravel washed away next to the two cement blocks and makes it more challenging. There are picnic and camping spots along the journey, but you have to bring along supplies and food. It is difficult to explain just how breathtaking the views are. You have to come and see what you miss out on. Do not rush this in one day. Take it slowly and enjoy!
